The Contractors Health And Safety Advisor

This is a service provided specifically for principal contractors or those wanting to act as principal contractors. It is specifically designed for those with limited resources or experience in the role as principal contractor where a project is notifiable. (That is to say where the construction phase is planned to last in excess of 30 working days or 500 person days). The service essentially means that Crossroad act as the H&S department of the principal contractor for the duration of the project this includes:

• Liaising with the CDM Coordinator

• Liaising with the client on issue of H&S

• Collecting and assessing pre construction information provided by the client or CDMC

• Assisting with competence questionnaires

• Reviewing or rewriting method statements and risk assessments prior to submission and distribution

• Reviewing competence of sub contractors

• Providing accident reporting facility

• Drafting or reviewing the Construction Phase Plan prior to submission to the client/CDMC

• Development of the site safety management system including

  • The site waste management plan
  • Induction systems
  • Record keeping
  • Disciplinary procedures
  • Contractor control and consultation

• Carrying out regular, independent monitoring of the project through inspections and audits of both the safety management system and the behaviours and safety standards of the site staff / sub-contractors.

• Providing management reports following each inspection

• Providing statistical reports on a monthly or quarterly basis and at the end of the project.

• On request, carrying out workshops and training sessions for contractors staff on compliance with CDM regulations and health and safety management and arrangements

A contractor can request all, some or even just one of these services to enable us to provide a package of services which add maximum value and reduce risk to as low as is reasonable.
