Health And Safety Advisor (Small Projects)

It only takes a fraction of a second to have an accident, but it takes much longer to prepare for one. Statistically it is proven that more accidents happen on smaller projects and yet projects with construction phases lasting less than 30 days or involving less than 500 person days do not legally need:

  • A Principal Contractor
  • A CDMC
  • A Construction Phase plan
  • A Safety file

However where a project is particularly complex or where a company is conducting a number of smaller projects (non notifiable) on a roll out or all at the same time it is good practice to appoint an independent safety advisor to carry out some of the coordination rolls of a CDMC. This service helps to ensure that the client still complies with his/her duties and responsibilities under the CDM regulations (which still apply to non notifiable projects)

And importantly it ensures that effort, energy and finances are spend in the most productive and effective way. The services include:

  • Making the client aware of his/her duties
  • Checking the competencies of contractors and designers
  • Working with the client to produce and distribute pre-construction information to the contractors and designers
  • Working with designers to ensure safety in design
  • Checking the contractors management arrangements are sufficient and that there are adequate welfare arrangements on the project
  • Assisting the client to comply with his/her duties
  • Carrying out regular, independent monitoring of the project / site(s) on behalf of the client
  • Providing management reports following each inspection
  • Providing statistical reports on a monthly or quarterly basis and at the end of the project.
  • On request, carrying out workshops and training sessions for client staff/contractors
