Inadequate PPE leads to worker contracting dermatitis
Prysmian Cables and Systems Ltd was fined £27,500 and ordered to pay £10,700 costs, at Southampton Crown Court on 9 September. The firm pleaded guilty to breaching reg.6(1)(a), 7(1), and 7(3) of the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002.

A construction firm failed
to implement a safe system of work for unloading materials, which led to a
worker being trapped underneath a heavy load.
A factory worker has
been left with permanent disabilities after contracting a severe form of
dermatitis at his workplace.
The Health and Safety
Executive (HSE) has expressed its deep disappointment at a decision by the
Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) to uphold a complaint about its
‘Asbestos: The hidden killer’ awareness campaign.
Companies have been advised
to ensure they have implemented site waste management schemes or risk
being susceptible to fines.
