What are the roles of the CDMC?

 

The CDM-C has a number of vital roles

These range from ensuring that the proper authorities are notified to working with designers on design risk management and importantly in making sure that the right people, get the right information, at the right time.

The main duties of CDM co-ordinators are to:

  •  Advise and assist the client in meeting their duties under CDM 2007.
  • Complete and submit a project notification to the Health and Safety Executive.
  • Provide, where asked by the client, advice and assistance in judging the competence of   prospective project team members using the criteria set out in the ACOP.
  • Identify and advise the client on pre-construction information needs for safety planning. Collect that information from the client and collate it.
  • Promptly provide relevant parts of the assembled pre-construction information to those involved with the design of the structure and to every contractor who may be or has been appointed.
  • Manage the subsequent flow of health and safety information between client, designers and contractors.
  • Work closely with designers throughout the project to co-ordinate design, planning and other preparation work for construction where it may have an impact on health and safety and ensure that risk management principles set out in CDM 2007 are properly implemented.
  • Liaise with the principal contractor over information requirements for site safety planning.
  • Advise the client on the suitability of the initial construction phase plan prepared by the principal contractor and on the arrangements made for welfare provision for the start of site work.
  • Produce or update a relevant, user friendly, health and safety file suitable for future use at the end of the construction phase.
